Bedford CF Ice Cream Van
Date: 10/15/2009
The CF was a model of light/medium light commercial vehicle produced by Bedford Vehicles from 1969 to 1988.
The engine was the well-proven Slant Four engine which was introduced for the Vauxhall FD Victor models in 1967. Apart from an increased engine capacity from the 1598cc and 1759cc units to the 1975cc and 2259cc, the power unit has remained unchanged. A four cylinder Perkins diesel unit could be specified for an extra £130.00 (1969).
Several different gearboxes were used, namely the Vauxhall 3 speed, 4 speed, Bedford 4-speed, ZF 4 speed, ZF 5-speed and the General Motors automatic. The Laycock type of overdrive was available to order or on the later Vauxhall 4-speed models.
There were three CF1 body styles. A standard panel van which was intended to rival the Ford Transit; the special van body (essentially a self-contained cab with a general-purpose chassis onto which a wide range of custom-built bodies or beds could be built), and the Dormobile (caravanette).

Morris Cowley pick up
Date: 07/12/2008
The Morris Cowley, was a smaller model to the famous Bullnose Morris Oxford. Introduced in 1919 and originally `powered by a White & Poppe engine, which gave way to an 11.9hp Continental unit shortly afterwards. Soon Morris approached the Coventry branch of the French armaments & motor manufacturer, Hotchkiss, who were to manufacture a modified version of the Continental engine and gearbox for Morris cars before being subsequently acquired by Morris in 1923.
The rugged qualities & reliability of these cars was to see a good number survive into old age and, following WW11, conversions into pick-up trucks were not uncommon, often carried out by farmers & local garages etc.
The Morris Cowley pick-up shown is a conversion from a 1930 Cowley car.
